Do you ever really sit back and think of how damn awesome it is to be alive? Most of us don’t. We sit back and look at all the shitty obstacles that are laid out in front of us on a daily basis. Wondering if it is even possible to move forward. There are two types of obstacles out there. Obstacles that are created by yourself and obstacles that are out of your control.
For your reading pleasure I will provide a couple examples. (These are very light examples.)
- An obstacle that is placed in its position with your control your attitude. Only you can adjust your attitude to stay positive and not go down a negative path which never leads to anything good.
- An obstacle that is placed in your way outside your control is your company down sizes and decides you get a pink slip.
I bring this up because of something I witnessed this morning while on my daily commute to work. I was stopped at a red light and looked over at the car to my left. There was 2 children less than 3 years of age in cars eats in the backseat. The child on the passenger side was staring at me eating a decent size rice crispy treat. Notice above, in the first sentence in this paragraph I noted this was my MORNING COMMUTE. This is at 7:30am. The other child was also eating one.
While my parental instincts started to kick in, I decided I wanted to see the driver and passenger. I pulled up a few more feet and took a look. A man driving and a woman passenger. Both of them smoking cigarettes with the windows up in a tiny little Hyundai Accent. The light turned green and we went our separate ways.
As I drive forward I cannot get the thought of my head of obstacles that you can’t and can control. These little kids are being subject to abuse in my opinion. They have zero control over their parent’s decisions. Rice Crispy Treats for breakfast? WTF! Then even worse is one or both of these kids could easily end up with severe sinus infections, chronic coughs, asthma and I hate even mentioning this, but Lung CANCER over their parent’s decision to smoke in the closed up car.
There are a lot of obstacles people deal with every day. Some of them are in their control and some of them are not. Have you ever thought maybe your decisions could remove an obstacle from someone else? Imagine if you were the one that saved them from a horrible situation. You were secretly their superhero.
